Tips for Getting Your Air Conditioner Back in the Game

ac-toolsWinters aren’t all that extreme in our part of the country, but we’re sure that you’re ready to see it gone regardless. April is here now, and that means that we’re ready to ease back into the cooling season. And you know what that means—it’s time to get your air conditioning system back in fighting shape! No, the fact that your system was working fine at the end of the previous cooling season does not mean that your system is going to jump right back into the swing of things.

If you are serious about getting the most from your home cooling system, and we assume that you are considering how hot and humid things can get around here, then you need to put in a bit of effort. Fortunately, we really do mean just a bit. It’s as simple as working with the trained professionals on our team, and you’re already reading this, after all. So here are some tips about how you can prep your air conditioner in Chesterfield for summer successfully.

Check the Outdoor Unit

Unlike in the midwest or the northeast, we don’t have to deal with too much in the way of ice and snow. It’s unlikely that your outdoor AC unit has been crushed under a mound of icy snow over the last few months. That being said, you definitely want to check it out to make sure that there are not any obvious problems with it that are going to give you trouble right off the bat.

Fallen tree branches and other hazards can do that type of damage. We’re not saying that you should start taking your unit apart to make sure that everything looks okay. However, you can rule out obvious signs of damage like dents and bent casings, or even damage to power lines and conduits, with a quick visual inspection.

Keep Your Air Filter in Mind

This is an ongoing concern. You need to keep a fresh air filter in your air conditioning system at all times. Refer to the manual that came with your system to make sure that you are using the right filter for that particular model.

We recommend that you check in on your filter monthly. It’s better to be doing so too frequently than not enough. Typically you’ll need a new filter every 1-3 months, but this can depend upon a lot of factors so best play it safe.

Schedule Routine Air Conditioning Maintenance

There is no getting around it. Regular air conditioning maintenance is, without exception, the best way in which to care for any air conditioning system. If you are serious about getting the best performance that your AC has to offer, maintenance is the key.

This is also not something that you can handle on your own. Do not try to convince yourself otherwise. Hire a skilled professional to tune up your system so that you know your AC will be there when you need it most.
